Polygamy

So, the #1 question I get asked is how many mothers I have. I have only one, and a majority of members probably do. Mormons do not practice polygamy and have not since 1890 when LDS president Wilford Woodruff officially denounced the practice of plural marriage. After I explain this, I am usually asked: "Why did Mormons practice polygamy in the first place". I have not found anyone who knows for sure, but the most common theory that I stumble upon is: as mormon men were dying off (because of persecution and the trek to Utah), there was a need for more parental guidance over the children that were left behind. That's where the extra wives would have come in. In addition to this, I have heard that it was to help populate the church quickly in the beginnings of Mormonism. These are only theories, so don't take my word for it, but they should help put some of the questions to rest.

If you're committed enough to learning about mormonism, check out the site above, it'll lead you to a link for a free Book of Mormon. Also, it features hundreds of profiles of Mormon people that describe them and their life and they are actually quite interesting. It's an all-around awesome website and I strongly suggest it. =)

Introduction

Hi, hello, how are you?? My name is Nick Chase and I'm a Mormon. You may know me as a devil child, a cult member, or something else. I often encounter people who have the wrong idea about Mormons - I've been asked if I have horns, can eat meat, or if I can use the internet (take a wild guess) - and I figured it would be nice to answer some of those questions. So basically I'm here for you to pick my brain on Mormonism - I'm NOT here to Bible bash so please don't provoke debate. So go ahead, ask any question you want! =)
